Personal guidance for bringing your book into print. SkyBird works with a small number of authors who have substantially complete manuscripts and want personal guidance through editing, design, proofs, and publication preparation. Our focus is practical nonfiction in education, philanthropy, nonprofit work, fundraising, and animal welfare, along with selected children’s books.
Book Services
What a project may include
Manuscript assessment and editorial recommendations; coordination of editing and specialist work; interior and cover production; print ready files and agreed eBook files; metadata and description drafting; proof review; and guidance through Amazon KDP or, when appropriate, IngramSpark. The scope is tailored and stated in a written proposal.
Projects outside our current focus
We are not currently seeking novels, short-story collections, poetry, memoirs or biographies, academic monographs, highly technical professional works, conventional textbooks, cookbooks, graphic novels, comics, or large-format art and photography books. Religious or values-oriented books may be considered when they fit our focus. SkyBird does not accept wholly AI-written books. AI-assisted projects remain eligible when the author directs and takes responsibility for the work.
How the arrangement works
The author ordinarily keeps copyright and publishing rights, controls the ISBN and publishing accounts, approves the final book, and receives sales proceeds directly. SkyBird charges an agreed project fee for defined services and normally receives no royalty. The author directly handles the title’s continuing business after publication.
Costs and expectations
An initial “fit” conversation is free. If a detailed manuscript assessment or production project makes sense, we provide a written scope and fee before work begins. Additional services and outside specialist costs are identified separately. SkyBird can help plan a book’s launch but does not have an in-house publicity department or guarantee sales or bookstore placement.
AI assisted work
SkyBird may use AI tools to support editorial review, design exploration, production, and quality checks under the founder’s supervision. We discuss proposed uses and manuscript handling with authors before processing a full manuscript. Authors review and approve their own books throughout the project.
